Our story
Why did Nkosinathi Temba start Thuto?
Growing up, Nkosinathi Temba was at the top of his grades — certificates, trophies, awards. But no matter how well he did at school, life at home didn’t get easier. Trophies couldn’t help make ends meet, and eventually that pressure started showing up in his marks too.
That’s when an idea stuck with him: what if doing well at school could create real rewards?
How was Thuto built?
Years later, that idea was being built on an ironing board with a second-hand computer and rough sketches. From the first prototype to representing South Africa on the global stage at the Entrepreneurship World Cup, the dream kept growing.
What is Thuto doing today?
Today Thuto works with schools, helping learners prepare for exams while turning their effort into real money rewards — teaching early financial literacy and making learning feel rewarding and supportive.
For Nkosinathi, this was never just about building an app. It was about building the kind of support he wished existed when he was a learner.
