Teachers, put learner motivation into parents’ hands — and wallets.

The shift

From isolated enforcer to motivation co-pilot

Before

Isolated enforcer

  • Carrying the burden of learners’ academic discipline alone.
  • Spending energy policing and nagging learners to complete tasks at home.
  • Begging parents for support after performance has dropped at the end of term.
With Thuto

Motivation co-pilot with parents

  • Thuto makes the work visible to parents,
  • reminds learners to complete it,
  • supports them with revision, and turns effort into rewards.

02 · Recognise effort

Insights and nudges: recognise effort together with parents.

  • TeacherWith one click, send a short in-app nudge — encourage those falling behind, or recognise those putting in the effort.
  • ParentParents get the same nudge, so encouragement at home matches encouragement at school.
  • LearnerLearners hear it from both sides — and effort starts to feel worth it.

Insights

Thuto isn’t a markbook. It tracks the habits that drive marks up.

You already know the marks from grading. Thuto shows revision completion, consistency and engagement — and flags who needs support before results slip.

Active

At least one revision session this week.

Engagement

Topics revised out of topics assigned.

Effort

Sessions completed out of sessions assigned — steady work, not rushing.

Consistency

A streak of finishing each topic when it’s released.

Progress

Relative improvement over time: 45% → 50% is an 11% gain.

Task completion

To-dos marked complete, on time or late.

Learners supported by both teachers and parents tend to stay on track — engaging regularly and improving consistently.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still stuck? Tap Ask in the app, or contact support.

Is this extra work for teachers?

No. Thuto uses what you already have — your termly assessment plan and the tasks you already set. Revision releases automatically, and parents carry more of the motivation.

Is Thuto a markbook?

No. You already know the marks from grading. Thuto focuses on the habits that drive them up — revision completion, consistency and engagement. It does capture and verify reported marks, so coins are released for the final mark.

How are self-reported marks kept honest?

Parents accept or question each mark, Thuto flags marks that are unusual for that learner, and subject teachers confirm or correct questioned marks before coins are released.

What can I see about parents?

With the parent’s consent: days active, marks checked, tasks recognised and nudges read. Never contact details, payment status or bonus amounts.

Do I see learners from other classes?

No. You see only your own school. A class teacher sees their class; a subject teacher sees only the learners they’ve ticked.

What does it cost?

Thuto for Teachers is free for teachers and schools. Parents can start free; Thuto Core is R100 a month per child, with TC 50 added every month.
